Fill The Socks Box!!!

Hello GSA Members and Friends,

Our Fall sock and underwear drive has begun!

- All "NEW" socks donated will be given to the Multi Service Center(MSC) in Long Beach.  The MSC is the main hub for homeless services in the city and will distribute all items based upon need.

- You don't need to donate socks.  We are collecting underwear and financial donations as well.

- According to the 2008 Long Beach Homeless Count there are over 3,000 homeless men, women and children who are currently living in shelters, hotel rooms and on the streets.

- The cold months are upon us and socks will help keep people's feet warm and clean.  Socks are often used as mittens by cutting a small hole for the thumb in the side.

- "The Socks Box" is located in the Geography office in LA4 room 106.

I purchased 5 pairs of socks for $4.50 from BJ Clothes on 7th street just around the corner from CSULB.

Please spread the seed and encourage people to help.  Students are not the only ones who can help, instructors, family members and friends can assist us in filling our donation bin.

Thank you for your help.

GSA T-Shirts

THE WINNING DESIGN!!!
Doug Watkins submitted a great design and it was voted upon by the club as our new shirt.  It will be printed on American Apparel shirts which are of the best quality.  Crew necks and V-necks will be available!!!

CSULB Graphic Design Student Omar Vargas has finalized the image and will be printing the shirts for us.  He has printed some amazing designs for a multitude of student organizations on campus and truly is a gifted artist.  It is great that we can support other students in their business endeavors and thus perpetuate success within our school.

Golden Shore Wetlands CleanUp

Hello GSA Bloggers,

Here is a message from grad student, Mike Nichols concerning the Golden Shore Wetlands CleanUp:

Hey all -

I spoke with LB parks and recreation about coordinating a cleanup for the Golden Shore Wetlands, downtown LB by the Catalina Express launch. In conjunction with the El Dorado Nature Center, on February 20th (Saturday from 10 AM - 12 PM) they will make that area available for clean up!
Since the last rains the place is pretty bad and could really use some TLC. I was down there the other day and there were tons of doves in the grass by the shoreline wading through all kinds of trash.

It would be great if we could get some people down there to help out.

Thank you.

First Meeting for Spring 2010

Thank you to all the students who attended our first GSA meeting tonight! It was great to see our returning members of the GSA as well as our potential new members. Thank you Dr. Thien for advising our club and thank you Dr. Jocoy for the information about the LINK Housing internship opportunity. Participation from students and faculty are what make the CSULB Geography Student Association strong.

A lot of great ideas were shared tonight and will factor into our plans for the semester. We are here to expand our cultural perspective as students free of the binding environment that academia may often create. Sometimes it's cool to hang out and learn something without having to write a two-thousand word reflection paper. I hope you all share your passion for growth and experience with the GSA as we start our Spring semester!

SAVE THE DATE: Our Cultural Tasting will be February 25th at 7:30 pm The Location will be posted soon. Please E-Mail us - CSULBgsa@gmail.com to reserve your seat.

Please tell us what you want from the Geography Student Association. Post ideas, thoughts, reflections and whatever else you would like to say. The GSA BlogSpot is for everyone so lets have fun with it. :)
