We are a student organization that caters to the interests of geography and geography-related majors. The GSA is also a great way to network with your geography peers, and find out what is happening in the Geography Department.

Mark your calendars! Here we go, two new events to announce...
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27th
The LB GSA is paying a visit to the "Happy Days Long Beach" exhibit of Long Beach bartifacts from the past 100 years at the Historical Society of Long Beach! Pre-War taps, stools, and other such fun memorabilia, all for free/donations at the door!
We will be meeting over there at 5pm, up in Bixby Knolls. After checking out the exhibit and anything else the HSLB may have to offer, then we'll be wandering over to the Factory Gastropub (one of LB's finest current bars) for dinner (location subject to change).
The Historical Society of Long Beach is located at 4260 Atlantic Avenue, Long Beach, California 90807. For those who have this break in class and may want a ride back to campus afterward, or to arrange any carpool, email us at csulbgsa@gmail.com and we will hook you up.
(As a bonus activity that night for any hockey fans who may be interested, Long Beach State's Hockey team is facing off against Colorado State at 8:50 that night at the close-to-Bixby Glacial Gardens Arena... Student admission is only $2. Let's see if we can get a group together for that, too.)
Aaaand...
SUNDAY, OKTOBER 14TH
Mark your calendars and get your beer steins out from storage (or grab them from wherever they're readily available). It's time for Oktoberfest!
We are pleased to announce that we'll be rolling deep with our friends in the German Club this year! Tentative meet time 1pm, at the Alpine Village in Torrance! More details to come as we continue to meet and plan this event. But we're very excited to team up with the German Club (and possibly even others) for the good times.
Email us with any questions, especially about helping organize very-necessary car pools for the festivities. That's all for now. We will be in touch. Play us off, crazy German drummer (skip to 1:25)
Alright, real quick. It's been a busy week, and a good one to end by paying a visit to a supposedly awesome exhibit about maps at the LA County Museum of Art! Anyone who can, meet at 5pm by the City Lights pillars entrance on Wilshire. All sorts of cool stuff happening tomorrow night there, and it's FREE for LA county residents. So, yeah!
So, we already sent out a mass email with details, but if you need a ride, just comment here, the facebook page, or email csulbgsa@gmail.com and we'll do our best to connect you with somebody who can help you out!
Just a quick message to say "Chukrane" (shoo-krahn) to all of the cool people who came out to make our Fall '12 Welcome dinner at Asha such a good time. We had so much fun, in fact, nobody thought to take pictures. But, it happened, with lots of couscous and hummus and kafta.
Don't miss out on our meetings this week: tomorrow (Tuesday) at 12:30pm in PH1-230, then again at 5pm on Wednesday in PH1-222. Also, we're paying a visit to LACMA this Friday at 5! Stay tuned for more info.
Hey, all y'all, We are going to be "tabling" at the CSULB Week of Welcome for the Fall Semester, starting tomorrow at 11am until 2pm, and then again on Thursday from 11am until 2pm.
Not sure WHERE exactly we'll be, but look out for the maps and gigantic hot pink GSA sign that Zach Morris would have totally thought was cool.
Come by and hang out, talk to interested students who wander by, and learn about some other good organizations. If you're available to sit at the table during those timespan(s), please let us know at csulbgsa@gmail.com
Hey, quick update before we get to the real "business" update!
Just so you can get these on your calendars, we're planning a dinner at ASHA in Long Beach on Sunday, September 9th. Email us, or reply to the facebook event here!
Also, we are planning on doing a group trip up to the LACMA for a really amazing Maps exhibit they have going on. That's on Friday, Sept. 14th, around 5pm. Free for LA County Residents, $10 for students otherwise. Bands and other events happening around LACMA that night, too!
That's it for now. Emphasis on the "for now." Oh, just kidding. If you haven't joined our group on facebook, do that now. It's right here and super quick!
New year at CSULB, new building for the Geography department, and more! Big new things are happening here, and we would love more than anything for you (yes, you) to be a part of it all.
Our first meetings of the semester are going to be on Tuesday, 12:30pm in a room that's going to be assigned soon, and Wednesday at 5:30pm in PH1-222. So, mark your calendars and bring some ideas for restaurants to eat at, places around SoCal to explore, and a bunch of pretty pictures from your summer travels to share. More details soon.
Also, for you conference-heads, we're going to start posting a bunch of CFPs (that's Calls for Papers) on this site for you guys. AAG is going down in LA in the spring, so that's pretty big right there. Anyway, like we said, more coming soon.
YEAH!!
Here's a video someone made for the band Geographer's song "Paris" with a background of New York, because the song's just that good it doesn't even need to match the visual.
